The Obsession Might Not Be Mutual
Angela Malzow

Forsake the steps I take in your wake
I watch from afar and I know who you are
But I won't say a word when it's my turn
Hugging the corners, keeping it tight with Spite
Yet we tangle our eyes and reflect our delight

These games are played, day in and out
If only I could find the courage to tell you about
How it drives me wild when you smile
And I wish you'd talk to me

My own grin fades as you turn away
Leaving me to pet my ego and mope
Beating down my flighty hopes

Why won't you say one word at least
Or is it the anxiety my eyes are inspiring?

Please, when our gazes next meet
Across the distance I'd like you to scream
How much you look forward to our playful intrigues
But that you would like more considering the insanity
We've roused

Today I'd like to see you
But I don't know who you are
Today I'd like know you
Who knew a few feet could feel so far
I admit I'm unsure of where we'll go
That my smile is often just a show
But I know on me you can rely
With me you can say 'For all time.'

Forsake these steps I take in your wake
You who haunts my daylight thoughts
Will you hear my words
When I condense them into a breath
Or will you be another hurt
Carved into my chest?

I've been watching
Making you unclean
With what's unseen
If you look my way
Think of something to say
Before I implode
Before my infatuation erodes

At this moment we're innocent
Free of the mud of the past
At this moment we're so fresh
Too bad it could never last
I'll never look back

Come find me.
While I walk around
When I'm trying to be lost
I'm somehow always found
But sometimes I wish to disappear
Completely gone, and instead missing
Because I'm nothing and never near
